On the sidelines of the International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), the 5th Annual Ministerial Conference of the AAA Initiative was held on April 23, 2025, in Meknes, under the theme: “Agroforestry and Climate Resilience: An African Vision for Food Security and Sustainable Development

This annual ministerial gathering serves as the main political platform bringing together African Ministers of Agriculture to define the strategic directions of the AAA Initiative (Adaptation of African Agriculture), which aims to strengthen the resilience of African agriculture to climate change — a major challenge for the continent’s economic and social development.

The event provided ministers with a renewed opportunity to share their experiences, visions, and recommendations in response to the challenges and opportunities facing African agriculture, while laying the groundwork for future collective action.

Alongside African Ministers of Agriculture, the event also brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including financial and technical institutions, development partners, private sector representatives, researchers, development institutes, academics, and scientists.

The conference also served as a platform to present the key messages from the scientific roundtable held on April 22, 2025, under the theme:

“Agroforestry in Support of Food Security and Climate Resilience in Africa: Bridging Science and Policy.”

This scientific session brought together leading experts who prepared a reference document intended to support African negotiators and delegations in the lead-up to COP30. This coordinated approach aims to ensure that the multiple benefits of agroforestry for the African continent are fully reflected in international climate negotiations and in decisions related to resource allocation.
